NUNAVUT TO NANTON, WITH LOVE

I personally cannot think of a better way to ring in Canada Day than with whale blubber.
Last week, this newspaper hosted a special lemonade stand during Nanton's Parade of Lemonade Stands. LOTS of people offering lemonade; not a lot of people offering lemonade* and maktak, brought from Iqaluit, Nunavut—thanks Tamara!

AN ENTHUSIASTIC PHIL WALKER (ABOVE) FROM CALGARY WAS THE FIRST TO TRY SOME.
The results of the experiment were thus: people don't love whale blubber when it in 35-degree heat.Nonetheless men and women, young and old alike, sampled some maktak both frozen and cooked and official results were that 50 per cent of people did not spit it out.

ALISON FERGUSON AND FAYE WIK PRETTY MUCH BEGGED ME FOR BLUBBER.
*If you are wondering what the experimental lemonade was, it was just watered-down Orangina.
